POSITION TITLE: Peer Support Specialist

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPERVISOR: Peer Support Supervisor

FLSA STATUS : Full time nonexempt

POSITION SUMMARY: The peer support specialists at Isaiah House are responsible for assisting clients with their recovery needs daily through the sharing of emotional support. They will be required to facilitate groups and meet with clients in a individual setting very frequently, in addition to the duties and responsibilities listed in the job description. The qualified individuals must be willing to work any shift with occasional change in weekly schedule

JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:

• Follow all applicable regulations including 908 KAR 2:220. Adult Peer Support Specialist.
• Complete a ROI with each client that allows the peer support specialist to access the entire clinical chart.
• Successfully complete, maintain, and submit a minimum of six (6) hours of related training or education in each subsequent year.
• Provide peer support services in an individual and group setting.
• Use relevant personal stories to assist clients through experience.
• Serve as a role model to the client.
• Encourage client voice and choice during development and implementation of plans.
• Support a client by:

1. Attending team meetings on behalf of the client at the request of the client: or
2. Accompanying the client to meetings upon the client’s request, if applicable.
3. Empower a client to have the confidence to be a self-advocate.
4. Help providers or other individuals understand the importance of integrating client voice an choice in services and support within a system of care.
5. Promote socialization, recovery, self-advocacy preservation, and enhancement of community living skills for clients.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs):

• Communicate effectively with all staff via daily briefing/debriefing, as well as progress tracker.
• Mediate between client, client’s family, provider, and case team when there are unresolved issues.
• Ensure proper documentation and filing of documents in client’s clinical chart and case file if applicable.
• Maintain awareness an knowledge of necessary information related to medical appointments court dates, intakes, GED/educational classes and employment.
• Thoroughly understand an explain Isaiah House Policy and Procedure/HIPPA
• Report to a fill in when needed as requested by Clinical Director and Program Director.

Be eighteen (18) years of age or older.

Have a current or past diagnosis of a mental health, substance use, or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.

Have received or be receiving treatment.

Have a minimum educational requirement of a high school diploma or General Equivalence Diploma (GED) certificate.

Demonstrate a pattern of recovery from mental health, substance use, or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder.

Successfully compete adult peer support specialist training approved by the Department.

Adheres to Isaiah House policies and procedures.

Attends mandatory in-services and other training/educational programs as required.
