Job Description

This junior-level Instructional Systems Designer (ISD) is a crucial member of a collaborative team tasked with designing and developing engaging learning experiences for diverse audiences. This position requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a cross-functional team. The ideal candidate will be adept at following guidelines, developing compelling content, creating engaging learning experiences, and supporting evolving training requirements and initiatives.NOTE: This is a part-time, hourly position with potential for increased hours and projects. The role is based in the Washington, D.C., area and requires regular in-person engagements. A work sample, portfolio, or other demonstration of your learning design or development work is required. Summary of responsibilitiesConsult, train, and collaborate with the project team and subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop and integrate educational technologies that are used to enhance, augment, and evaluate instructional delivery methodsSupport the project team by utilizing the instructional design process to define, develop, field-test, and evaluate learning experiences and assets that align with sound instructional design principlesDesign learning resources that are accessible and effective for learners of all levels, ensuring optimal comprehension and retention of materialUse instructional design methodologies and best practices to ensure quality and consistencyWrite concise, creative, and effective instructionCollaborate with various partners to understand and support the target audience's training strengths, preferences, needs, and cultureCreate engaging learning activities and compelling content, including exercises that enhance the learning processDevelop supporting materials and media such as audio, video, simulations, role-plays, and gamesCollaborate with the learning resource designer to provide visual design support for the project team, utilizing existing assets and materials that align with client requirements, branding guidelines, and standardsAssess and implement current trends and best practices in learning technologies and instructional design RequiredTwo - five years' experience related to the listed job responsibilitiesUndergraduate degree in adult education, educational technology, training, or related fieldDemonstrated knowledge of instructional design and learning theoriesFamiliarity with authoring platforms such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Creative, or CanvaAbility to work and communicate in a fast-paced and collaborative team environment using modern technologies (e.g., file sharing, workflows, wikis, chat, video conferencing)Attention to detail in work products with a commitment to quality and learner satisfactionProven strength in providing customer service to clients, SMEs, and learnersUnderstanding of visual design principlesStrong written and oral communication skillsSound judgment and confidentiality with personal and sensitive informationPositive, professional, and composed demeanor when interacting with clients, facilitators, and participants Desired qualities and traitsExperience in international development, either supporting federal clients or working with international organizations on foreign assistance programsFamiliarity with gamification and incorporating game elements into digital learning for increased engagement and motivationContinued professional development and seeking out opportunities to grow professionallyFluency in a language in addition to English
