Responsibilities Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements and provide written evidence of preparation. Prepare lessons that accommodate differences in student learning styles. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency and district policies. Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior and efficient classroom management procedures. Implement a system for student evaluation within state law or adopted district guidelines. Continuously evaluate and record student progress and report to parents as needed. Teach the course of study for ESL at the grade level prescribed in state law or district adoption. Plan lessons that lead to subject area objectives and assume responsibility for written lesson plans for substitutes. Provide a variety of planned learning experiences using media and methods to motivate students and best utilize instructional time. Identify pupil needs and cooperate with staff in assessing and resolving health, attitude, and learning problems. Be available for counseling with students and parents before and after school. Interpret the educational program to the community through activities such as open house and PTA meetings. Plan and coordinate the work of aides and other paraprofessional staff when applicable. Participate cooperatively with the principal to develop the evaluation system in conformance with district guidelines. Keep accurate student records and compile, maintain, and file required reports and documents. Perform all other duties as assigned. Maintain regular and punctual attendance at the worksite. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university. Valid Texas teacher certificate with required endorsements for ESL and grade level. Demonstrated general knowledge of curriculum and instruction. Demonstrated knowledge of routine tasks and the ability to follow specific instructions with little or no previous experience. Demonstrated flexibility to cope with the challenges of a rapidly changing world. Demonstrated willingness to remain current with the latest developments in the profession. Effective classroom management and instructional planning skills. Work Environment The noise level is usually moderate. Travel throughout the district is integral to this job. Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is essential.
