This individual will play a pivotal role in developing innovative and effective solutions for our DoD customers within the IC sector.
Role Overview

The Architectural Engineer will provide expert services in research and review of the design, development, construction, alteration, or repair of diplomatic buildings and structures. This role ensures that construction projects meet Department of State (DoS) and Intelligence Community (IC) security standards, while offering critical support to Congressional certification processes, policy development, and stakeholder collaboration.
Primary Duties
  • Review project plans, Construction Security Plans, construction blueprints, architectural drawings, and technical data to ensure compliance with relevant DoS and IC standards.
  • Provide advice and guidance to federal leadership on recommended changes and solutions to address security deficiencies.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders on solutions and design remediations.
  • Assist in the preparation of Congressional certification or internal confirmation packages.
  • Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) with architectural and engineering insights into technical security vulnerabilities, including electrical power systems and red/black isolation.
  • Review and report on Construction Security Plans for compliance with relevant standards.
  • Provide consulting advice and written recommendations for proposed changes to policies and standards.
  • Support the Congressional security certification process for U.S. diplomatic facilities.
  • Contribute architectural and engineering input to draft policies, best practices, and studies.

Required Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
  • Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of relevant work experience, or Master's degree with 10+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience reviewing project plans, Construction Security Plans, architectural drawings, and technical data to determine compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Practical knowledge of secure U.S. Government facilities' construction, maintenance, and operation in overseas environments.
  • In-depth understanding of architectural and security technical principles, theories, concepts, and their practical applications.
  • Ability to resolve highly complex problems using technical knowledge, reasoning, and interpretation.
  • Proven ability to develop innovative solutions through research and integration of best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills to engage with executive leadership on organizational and project matters.
  • Experience collaborating across U.S. Government IC agencies and the Department of State to advocate best practices and innovative approaches.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and design documents for large, complex facilities.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience managing construction projects for U.S. diplomatic facilities overseas.
  • Experience designing or installing secure power systems for IC facilities or U.S. Embassies.
  • Familiarity with drafting, reviewing, approving, or implementing DoS or IC Construction Security Plans.
  • Working knowledge of DoS construction security policies in the Foreign Affairs Manual (FAM) and Foreign Affairs Handbook (FAH).
  • Understanding of ICD 705 requirements.
  • Experience working within the Intelligence Community.
  • Expertise in red/black power isolation and grounding requirements.
  • Familiarity with electric power generation systems, components, electronic controls, fuel systems, and life and safety considerations.
Certifications
  • Relevant certifications in architectural engineering, security systems, or related fields are highly desirable.
