Applications Development Associate – Food Innovation & Sustainability

A cutting-edge food innovation company based in Chicago, IL is seeking an Applications Development Associate to join their growing R&D team on a long-term contract (6-months, with the possibility of extension or conversion). Key Responsibilities

• Support and execute experiments in food applications, under guidance from senior scientists
• Collect, prepare, and analyze samples; record findings in both lab notebooks and digital tracking tools
• Conduct basic analytical testing (pH, texture, moisture, color, etc.) and operate lab and pilot plant equipment
• Maintain equipment and lab space; follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Participate in product tastings and potential demonstrations to internal teams or visiting stakeholders
• Collaborate cross-functionally and communicate findings with the broader team

Ideal Candidate Has

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Food Science , Nutrition , or a related field
• 0–2 years of hands-on lab experience (academic or industry), especially in product development, QA, or pilot plant settings
• Comfort operating lab and bench-scale equipment; basic Excel proficiency
• Willingness to work occasional early shifts (7:00 AM starts) when needed
• Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and a flexible, team-oriented attitude
• Bonus: Experience presenting findings or customer-facing roles (e.g. hospitality, foodservice, demos)

Additional Details

• Schedule : Full-time, Monday–Friday; core hours ~8:00 AM–4:30 PM (flexibility required for early start times)
• Compensation : $25–$28/hr based on experience
• Contract : 6-month contract to hire
• Location : On-site at a clean, well-lit R&D facility in Chicago, IL (60609)
• Start Date : ASAP
