Wellness and Performance Coach, Athletic Performance

Part Time, Non Benefited

Position Summary:

The WPC-AP Specialty coordinates wellness and performance science and services for the Department of Athletics and may be assigned up to 10 teams to support as directed by the Director of WPS. Therefore, the WPC-AP must:

  • Coordinate the implementation of WPS science and services for all student-athletes.
  • Design, implement, and monitor all aspects of the yearly periodized plans for wellness and performance enhancement and ensure that each student-athlete receives a training plan addressing their personal goals and weaknesses.
  • Supports student success by promoting intercollegiate athletics as an integral part of the college learning environment and supporting the academic success of student-athletes.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional, conference, and national governing regulations.
  • Promote an Inclusive Westminster by demonstrating the commitments included in the Westminster University Diversity Statement; participate in developmental activities to increase understanding and awareness of issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion both individually and as related to my field of work, profession, or discipline.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The WPC-AP manages all wellness and performance science and services delivered to Westminster student-athletes.

The WPC-AP is responsible for managing all the primary duties listed below:

  • Play a key role in designing, developing, and implementing all wellness and performance services for Westminster athletic teams.
  • As part of the holistic evaluation process for each student-athlete, design and coordinate the regular testing programs for each sport, including translating data into meaningful and relevant reports to each athlete, coach, WPS staff, and other key stakeholders.
  • Design and adhere to laboratory protocols and standards to ensure valid and reliable testing and monitoring of athletes.
  • Collaborate with physical therapist(s), sports medicine, sports coaches, and WPS staff to guide the athletic training plans of Westminster student-athletes, making referrals when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with sports dietetics consultants to implement the sports dietetics program for Westminster student-athletes.
  • Calibration and upkeep of the WPS testing, training, and research equipment.
  • Design and produce resource material for the athlete education program, the Performance Lounge.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience
  • Professional Certification (NSCA –CSCS; CSCCA – SCCC; USAW, etc.)
  • Valid AED, CPR & First Aid certifications
  • Ability to work independently
  • Effective motivational skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal and public relation communication skills
  • Ability to create a positive atmosphere conducive to learning
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment with high standards and goals
  • Commitment to high professional and ethical standards

Additional Requirements

  • Extended hours, including evenings and weekends will be required., Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch required., Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds required., Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds required.
