Position Summary:

Reports directly to the Director of Marketing and Patient Outreach. Performs scheduling functions as designated by Southside Medical Center, Inc. Responsible for coordinating and scheduling surgeries, ensuring a professional and courteous environment for patients and staff.

Detailed Description of Position:

  1. Coordinates and documents appointment time, place of surgery, pre-op requirements and essential information. Communicates all details to the patient.
  2. Maintains communication between the physician, patient, insurance company, and hospital with distribution of schedules as required.
  3. Educating patients regarding proper surgical preparation and procedures to include items such as medication, treatments, lab-work, and testing.
  4. Verifying insurance coverage and eligibility prior to surgery.
  5. Contact hospital to coordinate and confirm the presence of a surgical technician/assistant prior to the scheduled surgery date.
  6. Obtaining prior authorizations with follow through and prompt turnaround.
  7. Must demonstrate excellent phone etiquette and exceptional customer service skills.
  8. Follow all written protocols and procedures of the center.
  9. Demonstrate courtesy and helpfulness towards patients.
  10. Provides other scheduling functions and performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities :

  1. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, Window environment, and strong keyboarding skills
  2. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, surgeons, co-workers and supervisor is critical
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology
  4. Highly developed interpersonal, facilitation, verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Ability to work independently.
  6. Strong attention to detail and active team participation
  7. Must be willing to help in all areas, have flexibility and effectively work in a team environment

Minimum Requirements:

High school graduate or equivalent. Minimum 1-2 years previous experience in hospital/medical office scheduling environment.

Typical Physical Demands:

Requires ability to be on the telephone for long periods of time. Requires sitting for long periods of time.

Typical Work Conditions:

Work is performed in an office environment.
