Summary

\n

GENERAL SUMMARY:

\n\n

Performs high complexity medical laboratory tests, procedures and analyses to provide data for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease.

\n\n
\n\n

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

\n\n

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

\n\n

2. *Serves as CLIA-defined General Supervisor, and/or oversees other laboratory staff members performance of laboratory tests according to laboratory standards, policies and procedures in a timely thorough manner and performs all laboratory procedures in all functional areas within the laboratory.

\n\n

3. *Analyzes test results and enters data into the computer using laboratory standards, policies, and procedures.

\n\n

4. *Performs and analyzes quality control measures to ensure accurate clinical data; analyzes unacceptable quality control results and troubleshoots shifts or trends as necessary.

\n\n

5. *Maintains competency and proficiency on all laboratory instrumentation and procedures; performs and documents preventive maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment, troubleshooting problems as

\n\n

needed; supports comparison and analysis of new tests and instruments. Notifies immediate supervisory personnel of equipment/instrument issues and calls Service regarding issues.

\n\n

6. *Communicates with clients, coworkers, and leadership, transmitting patient care testing and results, appropriate ideas, information, and opinions clearly, concisely and courteously; maintains employee, patient, client, and corporate confidentiality.

\n\n

7. *Performs general housekeeping tasks to ensure a safe work environment; maintains adequate supplies in the work area.

\n\n

8. *Participates in cross training new employees, students, other technical staff and support staff; evaluates students clinical and technical abilities; assists in writing training guidelines and checklists for new hires and students.

\n\n

9. *Works collaboratively with all laboratory staff to ensure completion of testing and communication of necessary information to assist testing completion.

\n\n

10. *Completes all mandatory safety, infection control, laboratory and Medical Center training and follows guidelines per written protocols.

\n\n

11. Assists in reviewing, revising and writing laboratory procedures.

\n\n

12. Uses quality improvement processes, programs or outcomes to help improve department operations; assists with LEAN projects.

\n\n

13. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

\n\n

14. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

\n\n

15. Performs service excellence must-haves to achieve an excellent patient/customer experience.

\n\n

16. Basic knowledge in phlebotomy and phlebotomy procedures and ability to perform phlebotomy if required by laboratory facility.

\n\n

17. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

\n\n

18. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

\n\n

19. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

\n\n

1. Knowledge of clinical laboratory equipment/instrumentation, test procedures and standards.

\n\n

2. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

\n\n

3. Skill in the use and preventative maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment.

\n\n

4. Ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply such concepts to practical situations.

\n\n

5. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

\n\n

6. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists and engage critical thinking skills.

\n\n

7. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

\n\n

8. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes.

\n\n

9. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.

\n\n

10. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

\n\n

11. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

\n\n

\n\n

13. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

\n\n

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

\n\n

Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science which includes clinical rotation as part of the program or Bachelors in Science in a related field and an additional year of MT/MLS clinical rotation required or meets the requirements for and is eligible for or has acquired the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)

\n\n

certification as an MLS or Technologist in Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology or Microbiology as outlined on the ASCP website. AMT and ISCLT or equivalent are acceptable.

\n\n

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

\n\n

\n\n

(DOT) Characterized as medium work requiring exertion of 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

\n\n
\n\n

Must be able to distinguish and discriminate between colors.

\n
