Base pay range $36.00/hr - $54.00/hr About The Position The Clark County District Attorney's Office is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Law Clerk position. This recruitment will be used to fill vacancies located in our Civil, Juvenile and/or Criminal Divisions. Law Clerks provide support to our staff of attorneys by performing legal research and writing on legal issues. Law Clerks interpret and apply laws, court decisions and other legal authorities in the preparation of briefs, pleadings, legal opinions and other legal documents. Law Clerks who are barred in Nevada may be allowed to make court appearances on behalf of the County. This is an open and continuous recruitment; scheduling dates will vary depending on when the application was received and reviewed by Human Resources. Students in or entering their final year of ABA-accredited law school are encouraged to apply; employment is contingent upon receiving your Juris Doctor degree by the time of appointment. This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources. Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the selection process. Some positions may be used to fill term Limited-Permanent positions. The selected candidates will be hired for a special project or duties of a limited duration and be required to sign a term of employment letter specifying condition and exact dates of employment. The successful candidates will be eligible for benefits during the duration of employment. This position is confidential and excluded from membership in the union. Employment is contingent upon the results of a background investigation, which may include both a pre- and post-offer background check for positions within the District Attorney’s Office, and a test for controlled substances. Minimum Requirements Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (professional doctorate) degree. Full-time experience in performing legal research and/or writing legal opinions or documents is desirable. All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the Education and Work Experience sections of the application. Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted. Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent on the results of a pre-employment drug examination. Examples of Duties Researches applicable legal and factual issues using computerized techniques and/or law library materials at the direction of an attorney or judge. Interprets and applies laws, court decisions and other legal authorities in the preparation of briefs, pleadings and other legal papers. Drafts memoranda, opinions and other documents related to findings on specific cases or issues. Researches and explains departmental, County and State procedures to attorneys and departmental support staff. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Maintains accurate records and files; prepares a variety of records and reports as assigned. Uses standard office equipment, including a computer in the performance of the work. May drive a personal or County vehicle in the course of the work.
