The Histology School Program Manager will play a pivotal role in the development and management of the newly revamped UPMC School of Histotechnology. This is an exciting opportunity to design and implement a state-of-the-art program that prepares the next generation of Histotechnology professionals. You will lead the charge in creating a dynamic curriculum, developing educational resources, and ensuring that students gain the skills necessary to thrive in the field of histology.

The ideal candidate is an experienced leader with a strong background in histotechnology education and a passion for shaping the future of the healthcare workforce. This is a collaborative, high-impact role that combines program management, curriculum development, and teaching responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

    \n
  • Develops and directs admission procedures for students and coordinates recruitment activities and public relations for the program.
  • \n
  • Formulate and communicate policies and procedures for the school.
  • \n
  • Plan and organize the program of instruction; develop curriculum in accordance with standards delineated by the National Society for Histotechnology; schedule lectures; obtain/recruit and schedule lecturers as necessary; examine, evaluate, select and purchase texts, audio-visual materials, slides and equipment; develop and implement student evaluation techniques; schedule clinical rotation of students.

  • Review curricula for continuity, validity and comprehensiveness; reviews qualifications and skills of instructors.

  • Directs other program staff and manages relationships of staff members with students required for clinical rotations.
  • \n
  • Integrate clinical training with departmental operations in such a manner that students receive suitable training and practice in clinical techniques while department's operational efficiency is maintained or enhanced.
  • \n
  • Develop and secures approval of and administers a budget for each school which provides for the attainment of objectives in accordance with approved plans.
  • \n
  • Ensure all NAACLS standards are met and program maintains accreditation through onsite visits and self-study.
  • \n
  • Act as liaison with administration and program college/ university affiliates to provide information and obtain support for program objectives.
  • \n
  • Prepare annual report of student performance, program evaluation and budget for school Board of Directors.
  • \n
  • Conduct annual meeting of advisory committee, as is required by NAACLS, comprised of key stakeholders.
  • \n
  • Remain current with developments/advancements in the clinical technology field by pursuing a program of educational enhancement.
  • \n
  • Evaluate students' performance, analyze strengths and weaknesses and recommend methods to improve competency, i.e., additional practice in screening preparation, special study techniques, etc.
  • \n
  • Receive and investigate complaints concerning student performance and/or behavior. Counsel students with academic, clinical and personal problems.
  • \n
  • Assist in student placement following graduation.
  • \n

  • Bachelor's degree with a combination of 30 semester hours of biology and chemistry.
  • \n
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in medical or laboratory education that includes teaching courses, conducting and managing learning experiences, evaluating student achievement, curriculum development, policy and procedure development and evaluation of program effectiveness.
  • \n
  • Knowledge of NAACLS accreditation process preferred.
  • \n

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Am Society Clinical Pathology- Histotechnologist (HTL) required within 1 year of hire.
