General Cleaner at Encompass Nature Of Work General cleaners are responsible for the overall cleanliness of the campus, including but not limited to offices, resident rooms, corridors, lobbies, entrances, clinics, stairwells, dining rooms, waiting areas, and other public spaces. They must maintain a safe and clean environment for students, staff, and visitors, and demonstrate a professional demeanor. Duties include cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting all areas. Examples Of Essential Duties Disinfect, sweep, mop, scrub, and dust assigned areas using checklists/duty lists. Disinfect toilets, urinals, sinks, mirrors, counters, showers, bathtubs, patient areas, and scrub walls; dust, clean, and vacuum furniture, blinds, windows or shades, fixtures, doors, and related furnishings. Maintain sanitary and cleaning supplies for assigned areas. Keep assigned equipment in good working condition. Cleans interior glass and polishes furniture. Disinfect and maintain ice machine and water fountains; keep stainless steel surfaces clean. Collect and remove trash from buildings daily. Replace sharps containers, transport trash, and remove empty boxes. Pick up and dispose of hazardous, regulated, or infectious waste. Disinfect patient, student, and staff area restrooms, vanity areas, showers, and locker rooms. Disinfect utility rooms, waiting rooms, and public restrooms, keeping them orderly. Maintain clean environment on campus by sweeping, mopping tile floors, vacuuming carpet, dusting, and cleaning baseboards, ledges, and windowsills. Thoroughly clean and disinfect high‑touch items such as tabletops, desktops, chairs, exterior wash stations, handles, knobs, and light switches using disinfecting wipes. Monitor and restock restroom dispensers (hand towels, toilet paper, hand soap, sanitary napkins). Complete all daily work orders on schedule. Participate in special projects and accept new assignments. Follow all housekeeping policies and procedures. Perform safe work practices and demonstrate awareness of health and safety. Have the physical ability to bend, stoop, reach, and lift more than 30 lbs several times per shift. Communicate moderately in verbal and written form with patients, students, and staff, often under stressful situations. Possess technical knowledge of general and specialized cleaning procedures and products. Assist with office or room special cleaning as needed and support project work as assigned. May be called “on call” for flood relief or other immediate relief efforts. Maintain confidentiality of all materials handled on campus. Use appropriate cleaning supplies according to departmental procedures and label chemicals correctly. Keep housekeeping closets and equipment clean and orderly. Maintain daily records of all work performed (daily checklist/duty list). Cooperate with other employees and perform routine, repetitive tasks continuously. Follow oral and written instructions; speak, read, and write English and Spanish effectively. Represent Encompass positively, following oral instructions, being pleasant, tactful, courteous, and cooperative with supervisors, co‑workers, residents, and client staff. Work under close supervision during standardized tasks; after training, accomplish responsibilities without assistance and without injury. Attend attendance policy, clock in and out, and embody the company’s mission, vision, and core values. Physical Demands Bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting more than 30 lbs repeatedly. Performing repetitive motions during dust, mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, and hand scrubbing. Operating and controlling equipment such as vacuums, pulling and pushing carts, carrying up to 50 lbs, twisting, and working above and below waste.
