L’Arche Heartland

Overnight Assistant (Wed–Sat).

10:00 PM - 8:00 AM.

Position Summary:

The Overnight Assistant is responsible for ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of the Core Members of L’Arche Heartland during overnight hours. This position plays a key role in maintaining a peaceful home environment while responding to any needs that arise during the night. Depending on the needs of the specific house, the position may be a sleeping or awake overnight role.

Schedule Options:

• Wednesday night through Saturday morning (10:00 PM to 8:00 AM).
• Each shift includes the expectation to remain on-site and responsive throughout the night.

Key Responsibilities:

• Be present and accessible in the home overnight, either awake or asleep based on house requirements.
• Provide support to Core Members as needed (medication reminders, bathroom assistance, calming support, or responding to emergencies).
• Ensure the home remains secure throughout the night (locking doors, monitoring safety concerns).
• Minimal Support morning routines wake-ups, basic hygiene support, and transitioning to day services).
• Prepare simple breakfasts or assist with light meal prep for the next day.
• Perform light housekeeping tasks (dishes, wiping down surfaces, taking out trash, laundry, general tidying).
• Maintain overnight documentation, communication logs, and any incident reports.
• Communicate clearly with House Leaders and day staff during shift transitions.
• Uphold L’Arche’s mission of mutual relationships and respect for the dignity of each Core Member.

Qualifications:

• Experience working in a direct support or caregiving role preferred but not required.
• Calm, patient, and dependable presence.
• Ability to remain attentive and alert overnight (for awake shifts).
• Ability to respond quickly and effectively in the case of emergency or distress.
• Clear background check and compliance with state-required training and certifications.

Work Environment:

Each of the five L’Arche homes has different overnight needs. Some homes require awake support due to the medical or behavioral needs of Core Members; others allow sleeping shifts , where the Overnight Assistant may rest in a designated bedroom but must be available if needed.
