Direct Support Professional

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) at Ralph Scott Lifeservices cares for individuals experiencing intellectual and\or developmental disabilities or illnesses. As a DSP you will provide assistance with activities of daily living, promote their emotional well-being, and support their personal growth and development. Duties include helping individuals complete basic housekeeping tasks, transporting individuals to appointments and\or other social outings. Your commitment to their well-being and safety from potential health hazards in their surrounding environment will not only improve their quality of life but also enable them to realize their full potential.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct Support Professionals work with individuals with mental or developmental disabilities by creating behavior plans, teaching self-care skills, cooking meals and doing laundry.
  • Assisting individuals with daily personal tasks, including bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, self-help, social interaction, domestics, leisure, and community skills, all while allowing them to be as independent as possible.
  • Completing housekeeping tasks such as vacuuming, washing dishes and tidying
  • Shopping for groceries and preparing meals that meet specific client dietary needs.
  • Encouraging client engagement in social networks and communities
  • Keeps the Qualified Professional (QP) informed on any problems concerning the individual and his/her programming.
  • Provides appropriate documentation including daily data and progress notes on individuals receiving services and various forms as required.
  • Provides information regarding the individual and his/her goals and assists in the development of new goals and modification of existing goals.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Attention to detail, especially when adhering to specific protocols and rules while carefully following instructions to care for the needs of the individual(s)
  • Integrity to ensure individual(s) feel safe and comfortable when tending to personal activities such as helping with bathing and personal hygiene.
  • Trustworthiness and dependability so individual(s) and their families feel comfortable relying on DSP staff.
  • Interpersonal skills when working with individual(s), including having compassion and being sensitive to their emotional needs when they are in extreme distress or pain.
  • Physical stamina when performing tasks such as lifting or turning their individual(s)
  • Provide daily living assistance to our individual(s) with special care needs.
  • Engage in the personal care needs of individuals, including hygiene assistance, meal preparation, and medication administration.
  • Implement and monitor individualized care plans, promoting personal growth and achievement.
  • Facilitate community involvement and socialization through various activities and outings.
  • Ensure a safe and nurturing environment, advocating for our individual(s) well-being and comfort.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals and family members to provide holistic support.
  • Assures the protection of Individual Rights and assures that individuals are free from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and mistreatment.
  • Maintains an active awareness of cultural diversity of individuals and other employees and works to accommodate that diversity in work, training, and leisure activities.
  • Must be willing to work as a team and help and cooperate with co-workers in a group home, home-like setting(s)
  • Communication skills (verbally and written) with all levels of personnel, internal and external to the company.
  • Ability to drive after dark and work flexible hours at times.
  • Capable of following written and verbal directions accurately and adjusting to changing situations.

POSITION REQUIRES:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and whatever location a need arises.
  • Valid driver's license of at least 3 years' duration as well as 3 years clean driving record.
  • Clean criminal background check.
