About the Role: Digital Forensics Engineer

As a Digital Forensics Engineer , you will be part of a cutting-edge team dedicated to delivering state-of-the-art technical research and solutions. If you have a passion for tackling challenging problems and possess strong research and collaboration skills, this role is for you!

What You Will Do

  • Analyze Multimedia: Dive deep into metadata and digital properties of multimedia files (images, videos, audio) to determine their origin and processing history.
  • Advanced Forensic Techniques: Utilize industry-leading software to assess the authenticity of files and identify potential malicious alterations.
  • Conduct Research: Employ the scientific method to explore digital forensics topics and tackle technical challenges independently.
  • Best Practices: Follow established protocols for the identification, collection, preservation, and analysis of digital evidence.
  • File Processing: Manipulate video/audio files across various formats and compression standards using tools like FFmpeg.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with your team to share knowledge, communicate progress, and solve technical challenges.
  • Quality Control: Perform periodic inspections of digital content to ensure high standards.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain detailed procedural documentation to enhance institutional knowledge.
  • Stay Updated: Keep abreast of emerging trends and tools in the digital forensics industry.
  • Support Development: Collaborate with software engineers to aid in the design and quality assurance of customer-facing products.

What Qualifications You Will Bring

  • Citizenship: This position requires US Citizenship.
  • Experience: Over 9 years as a research engineer.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Technical Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of ISO base media file formats and anti-forensic techniques.
  • Software Familiarity: Experience with image editors like Adobe Photoshop and GIMP.

Concepts That Should Seem Familiar to You

  • Photography principles (ISO, exposure time, focal length) and their impact on images and videos.
  • Forensics tools such as ExifTool, Hex Editors, Magnet Verify, FFmpeg, MediaInfo, and Amped Authenticat.

Bonus Points If You Have

  • Experience with Jira for project management.
  • Basic scripting skills in Python.
  • GIAC certifications in Battlefield Forensics and Acquisition (GBFA) or Advanced Smartphone Forensics (GASF).
  • ACIS certification as a Certified Mobile Device Examiner.

Experience & Education Requirements

  • Experience: 9 years as a Research Engineer.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
