Job Description

Columbus Technical College (CTC) seeks an individual to serve as the full-time Program Director Faculty/Instructor for the Dental Assisting program. The Program Director will serve as the first-line administrator within the program area, responsible for the overall leadership, planning, implementation, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of all aspects of the program. He/she will be directly responsible and accountable for fulfilling educational goals and objectives and ensuring program compliance through accreditation by the Committee on Dental Accreditation (CODA). This individual will be responsible for instruction and preparing lesson plans for the classroom, lab, and clinical setting. Additional Duties include maintaining program certification requirements, organizing and maintaining all required documentation and administrative reports, holding advisory committee meetings, attending workshops, seminars, and conferences, and completing all mandatory staff development training.  This position is Full-time/exempt.
Note: The tentative start date for the position is November 1, 2024.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead full-time/part-time faculty in curriculum development and instructional advancement in dental assisting
  • Review and ensure proper and timely course, student, and faculty scheduling
  • Facilitate the development of and assume responsibility for program budget management
  • Coordinate the annual core curriculum evaluations of the program, assessment of Institutional Effectiveness (IE), and prepare reports
  • Assist and encourage full-time and part-time faculty with their professional development
  • Review the College catalog on an annual basis concerning program curricula and make appropriate recommendations for changes
  • Assist with recruiting and hiring new full and part-time program faculty
  • Supervise and evaluate full-time and part-time faculty in the program
  • Coordinate departmental textbook orders.
  • Developing and evaluating student learning and program outcomes
  • Oversight of clinic management and quality assurance
  • Acquisition and fiscal management of instructional technology, clinic equipment, and operational resources
  • Follow state standards in developing the program and course outlines, goals, and objectives
  • Evaluate students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives
  • Attend TSCG Dental Assisting IFCC meetings
  • Request and maintain supplies and equipment
  • Meet with students, faculty, and other educators to discuss students’ instructional programs and other issues impacting the students’ progress
  • Ensure safety and security requirements are met in the training areas
  • Student advisement and registration
  • Assist with student recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts
  • Provide support and supervision to ensure programmatic and institutional accreditation, certifications, licensure, and placement outcomes are met
  • Serves on committees as directed and coordinated by the Academic Dean of Health Sciences and Nursing
  • Set an example and be a role model for professionalism and conduct for program staff and students
  • Ensure the academic quality of the instruction provided to the students
  • Participate in student, campus, and community activities as required
  • Actively participate in the local professional community to raise awareness of Columbus Technical College to enhance student opportunity, and build a professional network
  • Assist with student dental assisting orientations
  • Conduct and document regular department staff/faculty meetings
  • Ensure faculty and student files are maintained and complete
  • Possess the knowledge and ability to judge instructors’ competence and effectiveness
  • Participate in and document faculty and professional development activities, including any Continuing Education Units (CEUs) required for certification or licensure where required by law
  • Ensure that all appropriate surveys are conducted timely and reviewed effectively
  • Provide regular performance feedback, including formal classroom observations
  • Adhere to Columbus Technical College policies and accreditor standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned
​​​​​​​ Minimum Qualifications:
  • A Current Dental Assisting National Board “Certified Dental Assistant” or dentist licensed to practice in the state of Georgia
  • Baccalaureate degree or higher from an accredited higher education institution in dental assisting, education, or a related field
  • Occupational experience in the application of fourhanded dentistry principles, either as a dental assistant or working with a chairside assistant
  • Instruction experience in educational theory and methodology (e.g., curriculum development, educational psychology, test construction, measurement, and evaluation)
  • Current CPR certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong time management and organization skills
  • Keen observation, supervision, and evaluation skills
  • Proficient with current computer technology applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience teaching in an accredited Dental Assisting Program
  • Experience in BANNER and Blackboard
  • Knowledgeable about CODA’s accreditation process 
Salary/Benefits:

Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include state holidays, annual leave, sick leave, State of Georgia Retirement, Health and Flexible Benefits Program.
