Johnson College is currently seeking a full-time Automotive Technology Instructor. The Automotive Technology Instructor will be responsible for teaching students the skills necessary to become entry-level technicians in the automobile industry. The instructor should have expertise with brake systems, transmissions, alignments, and repairs; and familiarity with claims, sales and service, or truck/fleet maintenance. The instructor is responsible for course development, delivery, and assessment. The instructor will report directly to the Program Director.

This position will include organizing and delivering class syllabi and objectives in a clear, concise manner; maintaining an organized and safe lab; ensuring training aids, tools, and equipment are maintained and prepared for use in the classroom and labs; keeping accurate records of student performance and making timely submission of academic records; providing students with timely feedback.

The ideal candidate should be able to speak confidently in front of a small crowd and have a passion for recruiting into the skilled trades. All teaching positions request a minimum of an Associate's degree and/or 4/5 years of technical experience. Prior teaching experience is preferred but not required for most positions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Provide instruction, as specified in the curriculum.
• Knowledge of all the tools, equipment, skills, and resources utilized in the Automotive field.
• Knowledge of EV and hybrid vehicles.
• Maintain course of study by reviewing syllabi, course curriculum, and books.
• Assist with the selection and review of library resources to keep them current for the course of study.
• Enforce college policies and procedures with program students.
• Maintain a safe learning environment within program areas.
• Submit student book/tool kit/ parts information to the Program Director.
• Work with Academics to develop scheduling and transferability of coursework.
• Provide student advisement and assistance when necessary.
• Promote the program and assist with the procurement of educational resources and equipment.
• Participation in professional organizations.
• Participation in College activities and events.
• Participate and be an active member in assigned campus committee(s)
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Be ASE master technician certified (including the G1)
• Valid PA driver's license

EDUCATION:

Associate Degree in the subject or related subject taught

EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum of 4 years experience in the area taught
• Electrical system background
• EV and hybrid knowledge
• Prior teaching experience is preferred, but not required

SKILLS:

• Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
• Individual must have strong communications skills, ability to teach, expertise in their program area, good managerial skills, knowledge of industry standards, assessment skills, and organizational and word-processing skills.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Enforce college policies and procedures with all students and within their course of study.

EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:

Equipment used in program study, computers, and associate software.
