Job Description: The University of Toledo Department of Theatre and Film seeks to hire a Lecturer in Technical Direction & Theatre Technology to begin August 2025. This is a 9-month teaching position with teaching and practical duties. Teaching duties: Theatre Technology I & II, Intro to Theatre, and courses in expertise areas. Must mentor students working on independent projects in theatre technology.
Responsibilities include:
- Producing technical drawings for Scenery & Lighting/Sound
- Determining construction materials & supplies
- Overseeing construction & Production budgets
- Hiring, supervising & mentoring students in drafting, construction & theatre technology both in the classroom and in the production shops.
- Constructing & installation of scenery, lighting & sound
- Mentoring student workers in all areas of theatre technology
- Incorporating safety regulations into theatre technology curriculum
- Organizing and maintaining working theatre spaces.

Minimum Qualifications: Education:
1) MFA or MA in Theatre with professional experience as a Technical Director & in Theatre and/or Entertainment
or
2) a Bachelor's degree in Theatre with at least five years of professional experience as a Technical Director or a similar level position in Theatre and/or Entertainment.
Working knowledge of:
- Fabrication techniques (wood and metal)
- Theatrical rigging
- Computer Drafting in AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks 3D/2D
- Electrics & Sound equipment and technology
- ETC ION console programing
- Knowledge of safety precautions and procedures
Preferred Qualifications: - Prop work experience
- Projection experience
- Automation experience
